Hyundai to roll-out new cars in mid and premium car segment in India

The Indian unit of the leading Korean car maker Hyundai has said that it will launch a number of new cars across all segments in the Indian market. By rolling-out a series of new cars in the mid and full size car segment, the company aims to change its present image of a small car maker.

With the aim of strengthening its positing in the entry level sedan segment, the company rolled-out a new version of its Verna sedan in India. The car has been priced in the range of Rs 6.99 lakh and Rs 10.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The company has explained that in order to become a complete player in the Indian market, it will launch new models in mid and premium size segment.

Speaking to the reporters, Hyundai Motor Corporation’s President and CEO S S Yang said, "HMIL is very important for Hyundai Motor Company (HMC). HMIL has kept pace with the growth in the Indian market and we'll offer a full line of products here." He added that the Indian market is a priority for the company and Hyundai has supported this market through technology and new models.

Hyundai has a range of cars in its India portfolio including hatchbacks like Santro Xing, i10 and i20, and sedans like Verna and Sonata Transform, and sports utility vehicle Tucson.

Hyundai Motor India reduces prices of Sonata Transform

The country's second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter announced that it will pass on the full benefits of the additional duty of excise reduction announced by the finance minister in the recent budget.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd offers its customers a full range of cars starting from the entry level compact Santro to the premium luxury sedan - the Sonata Transform. According to the duty reduction announced in the budget any car equipped with an engine capacity of over 2 litre will have a reduced excise duty. Earlier the additional duty of excise was Rs 20,000 but after the recent budget announcement this has been brought down by Rs 5,000.

The Sonata Transform is powered by a 2.4 litre engine and hence directly benefits from the duty reduction.

Commenting on the new price Arvind Saxena Sr VP, Marketing and Sales said,

"We have always kept our customers in mind and created value for them. We will pass on the full benefits of the excise duty reduction to our valued customers. The Sonata Transform is a premium car with all the options and it had always catered to customers who looked for the ultimate luxury without having to pay exorbitantly for it."

The new Sonata Transform was launched in January, 2009 and is sold in petrol, Diesel and with an Automatic transmission for the diesel variant. The total cost benefit to the customer will be Rs 5,852 and the new price for the Sonata petrol is now an attractive Rs1,384,448 ( ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The new 'Sonata Transform' will be available in 2.4 litre petrol engine priced at Rs 13.9 lakh and two litre diesel engine with two options priced at Rs 14.89 lakh (for manual transmission) and Rs 15.9 lakh (for automatic transmission). "It is our endeavour to constantly upgrade our products. With the new Sonata we are looking to enhance our position in the luxury sedan segment," HMIL Managing Director H S Lheem told reporters here. The company which had indicated that it was considering price hike of its products is yet to take a final call, HMIL Senior VP Marketing and Sales Arvind Saxena said.
